NOTE: Select all and copy into note pad for better formatting.
I have a Rally 4 GB "flash drive" ( Memory stick ) and I could not resize, delete,, etc. with Partition Magic 8; or by using the Start > Control panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk
Management utility. ------------------------------------------ Step One:
Note: You may download BT3 beta, but I found one tweaked by -=Xploitz=- worked perfectly on my system.
I downloaded a BT3 beta torrent with was preconfigured by -=Xploitz=- and uncompressed it using my winrar program in
windows(R) xp pro. Then I used Nero to make a BT3 DVD. ( Sorry, I did this awhile ago so I can't go into details about Nero DVD burning;
however, just find "burn image to disk and select the BT3.iso as the image." )
Proceeded to copy and paste the Boot and BT3 directories from the DVD to the flash drive.
After that, my Windows popup displayed a window that said I am sorry that your going to Linux, I guess your going to
have fun with all that money your saving. Our accountants are going to miss you.
No really, the popup really did say that, ;-)
The flash drive now has the two directories ( boot, BT3) successfully copy/pasted. ------------------------------------------
Step Two: ( Note: if you don't do what I do, you won't get my results )
To partition my flash drive I downloaded the 15 day trial.
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/diskdirector/
After the download, install, and reboot (Restarted computer)
I plugged in my flash drive. I double clicked the "Acronis Disk Director Suite" icon:
Continue at your own risk!
****** Warning, Only One Error when working with partitions can and will totally delete everything on your computer
******
****** That said; DON'T TOUCH DISK 1, OR THE "NTFS (C:)" *******
If you know your that your flash drive is drive "F" and you see a icon that reads something like:
Disk 2 ---------------------------------------------------------------- drivelabel (F:)
click that "drivelabel (F:)" icon please. click Create Partition; read popup, yes and continue. click "free space of the existing partitions; next. ****** Remember don't touch "Disk 1" ****** click on "Disk 2" 3.875 GB Generic USB Flash Disk 0.00 USB; next Click the check box located before "drivelabel (F:) ; next ****** Note: the demo doesn't let you change Mimium size ****** Click next Click Logical if it isn't already selected; next Select "Ext3"; next Select "Yes, I want to assign a logical drive letter to the partition"; "G:"; next Enter label, example: "changes"; next Click Finish; proceed; ( took between 2 and 5 minutes before it completed , I think I had to click on the main Acronis
Disk Dir.. window, not sure ) because windose had to organize drive labels. Close Acronis, and reboot, as directed, remove USB as your computer may try to boot the uncompleted BT3 USB flash drive.
Yes, your right, I had relabel flash drives; however, after many attempts Acronis never worked.
Start > Control panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management utility In the Disk Management Utility I Right clicked on "drivelabel" and selected "Change Drive Letter and Paths"; Add; Assign the following drive letter
[F] ; Ok
I found a 8 Mb Healthy partition, Don't touch it... or ALL your work will be gone forever... lol
Actually, your done here, don't touch anything else, ;-)
------------------------------------------
Step Three:
Start > Run > type "cmd"; ok
A window will popup with a line like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>
Type F and press enter.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner> F
Resulting in:
F:\>
Type the following and press
F:\> cd boot F:\> bootinst.bat ( After reading and understanding the warning )
Click in the top right corner to close. ------------------------------------------
Step Four:
Remove your USB flash drive. Put the DVD that you created with Nero in the DVD drive and close windose to reboot your computer with the BT3 DVD.
After BT3 starts.
Plug in your USB; when prompted, select "Open in New Window"
Put your cursor over your "F" drive and note it's linux name, mine was "/dev/sdb5"
To start a new shell (It like a Linux CMD window)
Click on the Black square near the bottom left.
Resulting in:
bt ~ #
type the following exactly after the # prompt:
bt ~ # cd /mnt
bt mnt # ls
floppy/ live/ sda2/ sdb1/ sdb6/ sdc5/ hdc/ sda1/ sda4/ sdb5/ sdc1/ sdc6/ bt mnt # cd sdc1 ( Later when you successfully boot from your USB this device will be sdb1 ) bt sdc1 # cd boot
